Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia does not sell hearing aids but we can help you understand what to look for when purchasing a hearing aid. An audiologist can help by conducting a thorough hearing test and give you professional advice about whether or not a hearing aid or assistive device is the right treatment.
We can assist you in determining whether current technology (such as the iPad) may be a good-fit for addressing the communication needs of your family member. Speech-Language Pathologists take into consideration the individual's communication needs and skills, as well as a number of other factors and determine what technology is best.
French immersion can be an option for a child with speech and language difficulties. It is recommended that you consult with a speech-language pathologist on whether French immersion is a good fit for your child and what services will be needed to support the primary and secondary languages as your child transitions to school.
Studies have shown that children with language difficulties may do just as well in a French immersion class as in a monolingual class. When making the decision to put your child in French immersion, it is important to consider the exposure to the second language, the opportunities for practice and your child's motivation level. A speech-language pathologist will be happy to provide you with more information during this decision-making process.
